Wilmington, NC

I headed down to Wilmington Saturday afternoon for a night out with some of the wonderful gals I was lucky enough to live with while I was in the dorms at UNCW.  I still manage to see them about once a year, which is not enough.  They are amazing women.  Anyway, here's a picture from our night out on the town...

Aren't they lovely?  I ended up heading back to New Bern on Sunday afternoon to spend a little extra time with my dad.  On my way out of town, I decided I just couldn't leave the east coast without seeing the ocean, so a brief stop at Wrightsville Beach was made to put my toes in the water...

Today may hold another ride on my dad's boat before I prepare for my long drive west tomorrow.  Next stop: Nashville!

New Bern, NC

Day one of driving: complete.

Most of my trip will be spent out west, but I decided to come east first to see my family and some friends in North Carolina.  Today was spent in New Bern visiting my dad, step-mom and grandmother.  My dad took me out on the maiden voyage of his "new" boat on the Neuse and Trent Rivers...very nice!

Headed to Wilmington tonight to visit the girls for a couple of days!  More fun to come...

The Beginning

As the planning stages of my solo cross-country trip continue, I created this blog to document my travels beginning on May 27.  First off, please forgive me any boring or otherwise lame posts, as I have never done the blogging thing before.  I hope to keep posts short and sweet-- a picture or two with just enough text to let you know where I am and what I'm up to as I journey across the U.S.  There's not much of a plan, so much as a list of places I'd love to see!  The map below shows my proposed route:

A couple of notes about my route: (1) I know it looks like I'm passing right through Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, but I actually spent a good deal of time touring those states last summer.  This trip is generally intended to see parts of the U.S. I've not visited before.  (2) How much of this route is completed will be directly proportional to how well I stick to my budget.

So...look forward to my first real post next week (!!) when I set out on my own in the Corolla for an adventure (east and then) west and back!
