Wednesday afternoon I headed toward Bryce Canyon National Park. On my way, I drove through Hatch, Utah. I'm glad to know that the wise people of Utah have chosen such a pretty place to name after my family. :)
Once in the park, most of yesterday afternoon was spent visiting all of the little scenic view pullouts along the park road. Bryce Canyon really is a lovely place. I've taken so many pictures that I'm not sure where to start on posting them. It seems like each angle has its own unique specialness, and I can't seem to decide between any of them.
In case you're not aware, the rock formations here are called hoodoos. They occur in a limestone unit called the Claron.
I actually slept past the sunrise this morning, which was a delightful surprise. 5 am is too early to wake up on a regular basis, in my opinion. I set off around 9:30 to start my day's hiking, and completed a loop that combined three of the trails into a 7 mile figure-eight. It had some lovely views, but I think I'm quite ready to be done hiking up and down hills for a couple of days now.
And some little birdies...
In anticipation of my arrival in Vegas tomorrow, I also managed to find a shower (hadn't had one since Monday). The friend I'm staying with there will probably appreciate that.
